Cosaf cools indian summer temperatures at Pataks Foods with Breezair
When the outside temperature rises, workers in the Frying/Packaging Areas at Indian Food producers, Pataks Foods, no longer feel the heat following the installation of Breezair Evaporative Cooling. Specified and installed by CoSaf Environments, five Breezair evaporative coolers now provide the area with naturally cooled fresh air, which has reduced temperatures from summer highs of around 30°C to a comfortable working environment of around 22°C.
Looking after the well being of its staff is a top priority for Pataks, so when the existing levels of extraction and ventilation failed to reduce temperatures in the Packing/Frying Areas it turned to CoSaf Environments to find a solution. CoSaf recommended the Breezair system, which consumes up to 80% less energy than a conventional air conditioning system and contains no ozone depleting refrigerant gases, as a cost effective way of introducing cooling into the 1,125 square metre area.

The five Breezair coolers were installed outside the building, with air being distributed via ductwork to air diffusers in the Frying/Packing area to provide temperature relief. By introducing a steady flow of fresh, cooled air into the area, temperatures have dropped by around 8°C below outside ambient temperature. Temperatures are controlled by programmable regulators, which provide four different control modes.

“Refrigerated air conditioning, was unsuitable for this application as it was important to bring ventilation into the area and effect regular air changes”, said Mike Sullivan, Director of CoSaf Environments. “Although Pataks Foods primary concern was for the welfare of its employees, the energy saving costs and environmental attributes of the Breezair was a key factor in the company’s decision.”

The Breezair system is housed in a simple, clean, ultra-modern designed plastic casing specially developed to withstand all weather conditions. The Breezair's state-of-the-art components include an innovative water distribution system, which delivers continuous, balanced water coverage to all the pads. The world-patented system ensures maximum cooling efficiency and minimal maintenance problems.

An innovatively designed, aerodynamic fan provides a constant, even flow of air over the pads to provide a welcome cool breeze with minimal noise and low energy consumption. Other pioneering components include a highly efficient water pump that guarantees constant and reliable cooling when most needed, and a long lasting variable speed motor that gives maximum comfort level control.

“Our workforce is very supportive of the Breezair system which has provided a marked improvement in working conditions”, says Ray Brown, Projects Manager at Pataks Foods. “We are so pleased with the Breezair system that a further 16 coolers are being installed in other parts of the factory”.
