MAPAL delivers more precision for bigger bores
The introduction of the new ModulBore-Carbon range of bridge tools by precision cutting tool expert MAPAL means that achieving accurate machining of large bores up to 3,500 mm in diameter, while maintaining high productivity, is now straightforward. The new tools, which feature carbon fibre reinforced polymer bodies, are unaffected by temperature fluctuations during use, and therefore consistently maintain the highest levels of accuracy without the need for adjustment.
Conventional bridge tools for large bores have steel or aluminium bodies. With this type of tool, if the ambient temperature changes or if the tool heats up during use, dimensional fluctuations occur as a result of thermal expansion of the tool body. This means that, in order to maintain machining accuracy, the tool needs to be regularly adjusted and test cuts made, operations that are inconvenient and reduce productivity.

In contrast, the CRFP bodies used in MAPAL’s new ModulBore-Carbon tools have a co-efficient of thermal expansion which is, for all practical purposes, zero. This means that the new tools deliver consistently high accuracy irrespective of temperature fluctuations and, because adjustments during use are no longer needed, they allow significant savings to be made in machining time.

Additional benefits of the ModulBore-Carbon tools include their lightweight which facilitates handling, and their use of the accurate and well-proven ModulBore fine adjustment system which makes tool set up easy and reliable.

MAPAL offers its new ModulBore-Carbon bridge tools in versions suitable for machining bore diameters from 500 mm to 3,500 mm. The tools can be supplied for internal or external machining, and are available as double-bladed versions, with a leading stage and finely adjustable stage, and as single-bladed versions with an integral counterbalance weight.
