Both the FLIR P660 and P640 are now able to detect temperature differences as small as 0.03°C. And this equates to a thermal sensitivity of 30mK, a rating that is more common among infrared cameras used for research and development. With their 640 x 480 uncooled detectors these cameras are already high performers but this increase in specification takes them into a class of their own.
As these proven and highly popular infrared cameras can now see the smallest anomaly in an electro-mechanical system, their value in preventing failure is now even greater. Even relatively minor problems can now be seen easily on thermal images that are exceptionally sharp. Furthermore, higher sensitivity means they can be used effectively at a greater distance away from the target, an important safety factor for those inspecting high voltage installations.
